In this video, we review a call recording that appears to be an example of AI cold calling. The salesperson is promoting VoIP phone systems, and the way she responds sounds very much like an AI-driven interaction—somewhat robotic, lacking polish, and oddly generic.
What’s particularly interesting is whether the salesperson is AI or a real person mimicking AI unintentionally. Either way, the approach offers some clear opportunities for improvement, especially in how objections are handled.
What Could Have Been Better
The biggest issue in this example of AI cold calling was the response to the “not interested” objection. The rep responded with a polite but disengaging, “Okay, no problem.” This is a missed opportunity.
Objections like “not interested” will come up frequently in cold calls, and you need a strategy for how to respond and what to say. At a minimum, the goal should be to stay in the conversation and make at least two to three attempts to try to get around the objection before giving up.
How to Respond to “Not Interested”
One of the simplest and most effective tactics is to deflect the objection by asking a question. For example, in this scenario, the salesperson could have responded with:
Oh, I understand. Do you mind if I ask what type of phone system you are currently using?
This does three powerful things:
-
Deflects the objection without being confrontational
-
Keeps the conversation alive
-
Gathers useful information
If the prospect shares their current setup, the salesperson can use that insight to justify a follow-up:
Based on what you’ve shared, it might make sense to explore this further. Would you be open to a quick call next Tuesday?
Asking good questions like these not only helps AI cold calling scripts, but also enhances live human cold calls. If you’re not sure what questions to ask, we recommend using our sales message brainstorming process, which helps you craft the best set of talking points and questions tailored to what you sell.
